Since 1997, Brent Hardy has been totally immersed in the development, construction, and management of commercial real estate assets all over the country. His vast experience encompasses the retail, restaurant, warehouse, multi-family, and self-storage industries.
His career began as a project manager of facilities and construction. At times he has been the “boots on the ground” in the field, and at other times the “tie in the chair” in the boardroom – and everything in between. Through it all, Brent has learned how to effectively manage the asset lifecycles of global real estate portfolios.
Brent has overseen portfolios wholly owned by a single company, as well as those managed by franchisees, private equity groups, and other third parties. This vast, real-world experience has also led to a deep understanding of the challenges, complexities, and pain points organizations face in attempting to manage their properties, processes, and people.
Through it all, over the course of more than two decades, Brent tried to find a software system that would help manage employee workload, house vital property data, extend the useful life of assets, and facilitate efficient capital expenditure. His exhaustive search for such a tool led to a simple conclusion: one did not exist!
Instead, most organizations have long relied on Excel spreadsheets or other incongruous programs leading to wasted capital, widespread data loss, inefficient communication, and employee frustration.
Seeing this negative pattern play out in one company after another over decades, Brent formulated a clear vision of exactly what was needed to solve this complex problem. And after many years of planning and preparation, in 2023 Brent partnered with a group of experienced commercial real estate professionals and leading software developers to create FacilIQ: an all-in-one powerful software tool built to maximize the value and useful life of real estate assets.
Before Launching FacilIQ, Brent was with Mountain Classic Real Estate, Inc. (MCRE) a value-add developer based in Salt Lake City, Utah supervising multi-family construction, redevelopment, and asset management. Prior to MCRE he was Managing Director and Sr. Vice President of Construction & Asset Management for Merit Hill Capital, a New York based real estate investment firm focused on acquiring, owning, and managing self-storage facilities across the U.S. Much of Brent’s career was spent as Sr. Vice President of Construction & Capital Asset Management at Extra Space Storage, where he worked for 17 years directing global construction, property development and long-term asset preservation efforts.
At Extra Space Storage, Brent oversaw the development, property redevelopment and renovations programs where through his strategic vision and execution, the company’s portfolio value was greatly enhanced. During his tenure he was a major contributor to the overall planned growth implementing essential asset management systems and processes to effectively leverage the firm’s portfolio of more than 1,450 assets nationwide. Additionally, he was responsible for facility planning and design, property rebranding, and corporate procurement efforts maximizing global buying power.
Brent was a driving force for corporate responsibility, portfolio efficiency, and innovation, implementing energy management and sustainability programs including the deployment of over 2000 megawatts of photovoltaic systems. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for Cottonwood Residential Multi-family REIT in addition to serving as the Compensation Committee Chair. Brent graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. degree in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. Prior to his career in multi-family and self-storage he spent several years with various real estate, construction, and operations management firms.
Beyond anything, Brent is most proud of his four beautiful and amazing daughters.
